Many people have made the economical decision to switch out their plastic pots for fabric grow bags. Apart from helping the environment, fabric planters offer you and your plants tons of benefits. One of the biggest advantages is the fact that you can wash and reuse fabric grow bags multiple times.

How Many Times Can You Reuse Fabric Grow Bags?

You can reuse fabric grow bags over and over again. They can last up to 10 years or more, depending on the quality of the material used to make them, and how well you take care of them.

You can extend your grow bags lifespan and make it last even longer if you regularly clean it and move it out of direct sunlight from time to time.

Our WhizzPouch is made from a breathable, non-woven organic material with a soft, felt-like texture. It is reusable, washable and has a lifespan of up to 7 years.

Do Grow Bags Get Moldy?

Oftentimes, fabric grow bags can start to grow mold or moss due to too much moisture and too little sunlight. In fact, mold thrives in dark and damp environments, and because most fabric grow bags are not breathable, the soil inside stays moist for long periods of time – especially when it is not placed in the sun.

WhizzPouches are breathable, which means that it is less likely to grow mold on the bags. However, this does not mean that you should not clean your grow bags every now and then to ensure the longevity of your bags.

To prevent mold from growing on your grow bags, you need to:

  • Avoid overwatering plants
  • Ensure your plants receive enough sunlight

How To Clean Your Fabric Grow Bags?

We do not recommend washing your fabric grow bags in a washing machine. Instead, hand washing them is the best option to ensure that your grow bags last even longer.

Follow these steps to clean your grow bags:

  1. Empty out the grow bags.
  2. Scrub off any debris stuck on the bag with a soft brush.
  3. Fill a bucket with water, dishwashing soap, and baking soda.
  4. Submerge your bag in the bucket and allow it to sit for a couple of minutes.
  5. Scrub your bag gently while in the bucket to ensure it is completely clean.
  6. Rinse your grow bag and ensure the soap mixture is washed off.
  7. Leave your grow bag out to dry in the sun.

Benefits of Using Fabric Grow Bags

Your plants gain tons of benefits when you switch over to fabric grow bags. Three of the many benefits it offers your plants are:

No Root Binding

In plastic pots, the roots start to circle around each other causing your plants to suffocate, limiting their ability to absorb the necessary water and nutrients.

Fabric grow bags are breathable and allow for air pruning and proper root growth. Air pruning burns the plant roots off naturally, inhibiting root binding and allowing healthier roots to grow.

Can Be Reused

Fabric plant bags can be reused multiple times, which lessens the amount of plastic that lands up in our oceans and landfills each year.

They can simply be washed out and a new plant can be put in.

Excellent Drainage

One of the best benefits of grow bags is their drainage. This helps to prevent overwatering your plants and causing the roots to rot.

Unlike plastic pots that have large drainage holes at the bottom that cause water and soil to wash away quickly, fabric planters allow excess water to seep out slowly, ensuring that all the necessary nutrients are properly absorbed.
