World Wildlife Day is an annual celebration that takes place on the 3rd of March each year. It aims to both celebrate and raise awareness for the world’s wild animal and plant species.

What Is the Theme for World Wildlife Day 2023?

World Wildlife Day is celebrated on the 3rd of March each year, marking the anniversary of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). CITES aims to protect endangered plants and animals during international trade to ensure it does not threaten their survival.

In honor of CITES’ 50th birthday, Wildlifeday.org has chosen “Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation” as the theme for 2023. The aim is to create an opportunity to highlight the efforts of those making a difference. As well as to celebrate CITES’ significant contribution to sustainability, wildlife and biodiversity conservation over the past 50 years.

How To Get Involved in World Wildlife Day

There are a few practical ways that you and your community can get involved this year in the celebration of World Wildlife Day 2023. In fact, by taking part in even just one of these activities can make a difference to the conservation of the wild animal and plant life in your area.

  1. Pay A Visit
  2. Consume Reasonably
  3. Donate
  4. Volunteer
  5. Educate Yourself
  6. Raise Awareness

1. Pay A Visit

Pay a visit to your local aquarium, botanical garden, national park or nature reserve. Your support and financial contribution aids in the running and maintenance of these types of locations. As a result, this allows for the preservation of the habitats and bio diversity of the animals and plants that inhabit these areas.

2. Consume Reasonably

Products that are illegally sourced or produced using protected plant or animal parts, pose a threat to the protection of wildlife. The production of these goods leads to wildlife trafficking or the endangerment of native plant and animal species.

With this in mind, show your support by making a conscious effort NOT to purchase or support businesses that distribute these kinds of illegally manufactured products.

3. Donate

There are many ways of donating to wildlife causes in your area. Whether it be a financial contribution to a charity that aids in the preservation of native wildlife, or through the donation of new and used goods to non-profit organizations such as animal sanctuaries or other habitat conservationists in your area.

4. Volunteer

If you are not able to donate financially, you can donate your time by volunteering at a wildlife cause in your area. Some examples of wildlife causes that have volunteer programs include your local zoo or aquarium, or animal sanctuaries that house wildlife threatened by habitat loss.

Another way of volunteering is by hosting or joining a local beach or nature reserve cleanup. By clearing these spaces from litter and waste that could be harmful to the native wildlife, you are assisting in the protection of the biodiversity of these natural habitats.

5. Educate Yourself

Read up on your native flora and fauna, and learn about those that are threatened by extinction. In addition to this, you can also research ways that you and your local community can contribute to the conservation and protection of native wildlife.

As a result, by staying educated on local and global environmental matters, you can make yourself and others aware of the individual impact that our daily habits and decisions have on ecosystems and wildlife.

6. Raise Awareness

A simple post on your social media platforms can go a long way. Inform, educate and encourage those around you on the importance of the conservation of nature.

Partner up with your friends, partners, coworkers or family and share your photos or videos of your contribution with us on Instagram or Facebook and be sure to add the following hashtags:

Be The Change!

These are just a few simple ways of contributing to World Wildlife Day 2023.

While local governments and conservationists are increasing their efforts to protect wildlife, if we come together as a community and make this a part of our daily lives, our effort will cause a ripple effect and make a positive impact on not only a local, but on a global scale as well. Our collective conservation efforts can truly be the difference between a species surviving or disappearing.

With that being said, be the change you want to see – TODAY!
